4G Brings New Opportunities

Next-generation LTE technology has been making its presence felt across the Asia Pacific region as mobile
operators progressively roll out commercial services.At present, LTE services are largely limited to
USB modems due to a lack of compatible mobile devices. However, we expect the situation to begin
changing in 2012, and the large-scale launch of 4G smartphones and tablet computers should herald a new
generation of mobile VAS.

Besides services such as video streaming and video conferencing, the machine-to-machine (M2M) market
could be one area that could receive more attention from Asian companies following the launch of LTE
services. M2M technologies refer to the ability of different devices to communicate and relay information.
They can be used in areas such as smart utility metering, ehealth, telematics and digital billboards, and
Western European mobile operators and M2M vendors have been actively developing the market to pursue
greater adoption.The Philippines' Globe Telecom launched its first M2M service - a GPS vehicle tracking system - in 2008 and expanded its portfolio further in August 2011 to encompass monitoring of fixed assets, surveillance and security, as well as tracking of various objects ranging from vending machines to tanks.

Ideally, the candidate would be working for a telecom equipment vendor like Ericsson, Alactel-Lucent, Motorola, Nokia Siemens, TeleDNA, Comverse, Acision, Huawei, ZTE etc. and should have been part of presales activities selling equipment to operators in India and other APAC countries.

At least 8 years of experience in end-to-end Wireless Telecommunication technology, mainly core technology, call control and bearer communications.
• Extensive knowledge of the various network communication protocols: GSM,3G UMTS, CDMA, IMS, SIP, UMA solutions.
• Excellent product knowledge of IMS, GSM/UMTS, CDMA etc Network Elements like CSCF, HSS, MSC/VLR, HLR, SMSC etc.
• Complete understanding of operator networks, voice and messaging applications, (including system features and functions) and how they are facilitated, engineered, and supported seamlessly, operator’s business challenges
• System capacity, traffic modeling and tool creation
• Pricing model and tool creation
• IP technology with emphasis in systems/solution design and integration
• At least B.E./B.Tech. in engineering discipline, such as Electrical Eng., Computer Eng. etc.
• Strong communications skills; verbal, written and presentation
• Highly proficient in English
• This position requires frequent travel within the Asia Pacific region

Motorola claims successful demo of TD-LTE

Motorola claimed that it successfully demonstrated a end-to-end TD-LTE solution at the Shanghai Expo. High-speed internet applications were run via USB dongles.

"A healthy devices ecosystem has always been critical to the development, commercialization and success of wireless network technologies. We are working closely with partners to drive this ecosystem as demonstrated by the advancement announced today. TD-LTE is now a commercial reality and we are very pleased to see that industry players are joining forces to accelerate TD-LTE globalization."

Motorola is partnering China Mobile as the main equipment supplier for the world’s largest operator’s TD-LTE plans. The USB dongle developed by Motorola supports both 2.3 GHZ and 2.6 GHz bands.
