Coaster charges phones using energy from hot or cold drinks

Regular readers of Springwise may remember our recent coverage of the PowerPot, a cooking device that takes advantage of disparities in thermal energy to power phone chargers. Now the Epiphany onE Puck aims to achieve something similar, enabling anyone to charge their handset using hot or cold drinks.
The device is shaped like a hockey puck, acting as a coaster for cups and tumblers. It works in a similar way to a Stirling engine – technology that has been around for 200 years – which uses the energy from the heat conduction process to power a constant cycle of expanding fluids inside the coaster. The energy from the motion of these fluids is then converted into electricity. One side is colored red and the other blue – hot drinks are placed on the red side and cold drinks on the reverse. Users can plug any USB-charged device into the onE Puck, such as an iPhone, Android handset or mp3 player. Given that many office workers rely on tea or coffee to get them through the day, the onE Puck simply takes advantage of the energy those drinks give out to power phones without taking from the grid.

Benefits of Beer

Very few beverages have the worldwide popularity of beer. Most countries have their own unique beer and actively import those of other countries. The familiar crack of the cold can, the glowing amber colour when poured and the aroma, entice us to taste that bitter, woody flavour that so many of enjoy.
Different countries have different ideas about beer – some are even served hot – but most agree that the best beer is a fresh beer before its aromatic properties are destroyed or its carbon dioxide lost. Beer connoisseurs worldwide are as numerous as wine drinkers and like the later, there are beer snobs too! There are even beer schools for those us who wish to learn the art of tasting, pouring, pairing beers and even cooking with beer!
Like wine, beer consumed in moderation is also recognized for having positive effects on the human cardiovascular system by helping to prevent the clogging of arteries. Research also shows that it can increase the levels of good cholesterol, HDL.
Did you know that beer also contains as much as six times more potassium than salt? Complement beer with salty foods, therefore, helps to balance out the bodies potassium ions.
Beer generally has the lowest percentage of alcohol of all alcoholic beverages. The impairing effect of beer can be further mitigated by eating oily foods between sips because the oil actually acts as a coating for the stomach and slows the absorption of the alcohol into the bloodstream.
Anything else? Oh yeah…the yeast contained in beer has further benefits on the human body, such as a variety of vitamin B and trace amounts of Chromium, known for its ability to reduce the production of fat cells.
Whether you are a redneck or a blueblood, there’s a beer out there for you, so enjoy it and share it!

Dont get anything for kindness...Excellent!

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water.
She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"
"You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness."
He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.
Year's later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval.
He looked at it, and then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill.
She read these words.....
"Paid in full with one glass of milk"

Water Works for Weight Loss

Nothing quells the appetite like water, lots and lots of water. Start out with two quart bottles in the morning and carry one with you to work or wherever you go. If you like, divvy up the 64 ounces of water into eight (8-ounce) bottles or four pint (16-ounce) bottles to carry around with you all day. Freeze half of them the night before and they will last all day, even in a hot car. Keep some unfrozen so they will be ready to drink immediately.

Yes. You will have to make more frequent bathroom trips, but it is worth it. Drink your 64 ounces of water before dinner, if possible, so you're not up half the night going to the bathroom.

Water not only fills you up and lessens your appetite, it prevents those "hungry horrors" we all encounter when our blood sugar drops and we reach for cookies, candy, ice cream, fries or other high-calorie treats. Water also flushes out the system, rids the body of bloat and toxins and rosies up the complexion. Now, start splashing.
