Sr. RF and Radio professionals.

Job Description
• GIS Data Collection: This includes going to each site, measure latitude and longitude, physical observation of site terrains and test of LOS for backhaul.
• Cell Planning: Inserting the site data into cell planning tool, analyze the cell coverage for each city, estimate the number of cell sites required, measure the antenna height, type of antenna, deciding the antenna specifications. Link budget calculation based on various path loss model etc.
• Frequency Planning: Planning for frequency re-use, Interference analysis
• Backhaul Planning for Microwave: Estimating number of spots required, type of microwave antenna, height of antenna, distance between two points for different frequency band, interference analysis
• Network Optimization: Drive test data collection, post processing of drive test data, co-ordination with OSS team regarding changes of parameters for better network performance.
• Providing training to team members

Technical Skills
• 2-3 years experience in RF planning and engineering
• In-depth knowledge on Microwave communications
• Hands on experience of various RF planning tools for Cell planning, frequency planning and microwave planning
• In-depth knowledge on various path loss model, frequency re-use method,
• Good knowledge on how to do interference analysis, impact on interference due to changes of various RF parameters
• Calculate the link budget
• Hands on experience on use of various drive test tools.
• Should able to perform drive test, collect the drive test data, perform post processing analysis and recommend the parameter changes, new cell site etc. for better network performance.
• Good knowledge of Network back-haul technologies
• Candidate should have good communication skills both on verbal and writing
• Ability to work in 24x7 environments
B.E or above with one of the following Specialization and 70% or more in academics

The MSC in Pool, as a part of Intra Domain Connection of RAN Nodes to Multiple CN Nodes solution, overcomes the strict hierarchy, which restricts the connection of a BSC node to just one MSC. This restriction results from routing mechanisms in the BSC which differentiate only between information to be sent to the MSC (CS domain) or to the SGSN (PS domain) and which do not differentiate between multiple CN nodes in each domain. The MSC in Pool solution introduces a routing mechanism and other related functionality, which enables the BSC to route information to different CN nodes within the CS or PS domain, respectively.

Some GSM, UMTS and LTE Measurement Units

Here, the world is still quite simple. Once the mobile has found a cell it keeps monitoring it's received signal power and computes the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) over the complete carrier frequency (200 kHz). Neighboring cells use different frequencies and the same value is calculated for those as well.
UMTS
Here, things get a bit more complicated as all cells use the same frequency. As a result not only the received signal strength is important but also the noise level generated by neighboring cells. In the end, what good does it do to you when the signal level is strong but most of it is interference? That's why there are three values:
  • RSCP: The Received Signal Code Power: That's the power level the pilot channel of a cell is received with and usually expressed in dBm (mW on a logarithmic scale).
  • RSSI: In UMTS that's the signal power over the complete 5 MHz carrier which includes all components received, including the signals from neighboring cells on the same frequency.
  • EcNo: (Signal to Noise ratio): That's the received energy per chip (Ec) of the pilot channel divided by the total noise power density (No). In other words the EcNo is the RSCP divided by the RSSI. And again in other words: The better this value the better the signal can be distinguished from the noise and the faster the data transmission will be. The EcNo is usually expressed in dB as it's a relative value. The value is negative as the RSCP is smaller than the total received power.
LTE
LTE networks also use the same carrier frequency in neighboring cells so again the signal level and interference are important:
  • RSRP: That's the Received Power of the Reference Signal.
  • RSSI: That's the total received power including Interference from neighboring cells and other sources.
  • RSRQ: That's the Reference Signal Received Quality and equals the RSRP divided by the RSSI. As above the better this value, the better can the signal of the cell be received against the interference generated by other cells. It's kind of the EcNo of LTE...
Quite a lot of similarities between UMTS and LTE from a high level point of view even though the values are measured in quite a different way due to the different air interface natures (WCDMA vs. OFDMA).

Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)
In this case, a radio channel supports a number of simultaneous users who are
separated only by digital coding of their signals, such that the coding of each user’s
signal is as different as possible to every other user’s code. Careful decoding at the
receiver can then separate users. An analogy can be drawn by considering a crowded
restaurant. If many diners are speaking simultaneously, the human ear can “tune” into
one voice by using the unique audio characteristics (“coding”) of the voice. This is
possible if no diner is speaking very loudly or softly, i.e. all are speaking with similar
volume. The listener’s decoding task is made even easier if the speaker of interest
uses a language (e.g. French) different from all others (e.g. English). This is equivalent
in CDMA to a user being given a code very different from all others. CDMA appear to
offer better spectral efficiency than FDM/TDMA – perhaps 4 or 5 times better. Other
benefits will discussed later.

Understanding UMTS-WCDMA

W-CDMA is a multiple access technique using a concept known as Spread Spectrum.
In Spread Spectrum systems, the information bandwidth is “spread” across a wider
transmission bandwidth. This transmission bandwidth is determined by a function
which is independent of the information being sent.
So the information from both simple speech and complex video services, which
clearly have very different “information bandwidth”, will both be converted to be sent
over the full frequency band defined for the system.
Application of the same spreading codes once again at the receiver returns the
transmitted signals back to their original bandwidths.
In order to allow them to be distinguished at a receiver, signals which coexist within
the transmission frequency band must be separated using codes which have a low
cross-correlation with the other codes. In other words decoding signals using the
wrong code will simply produce “noise”, since only the signal with the desired code
will be strongly recognised.
Being able to distinguish signals from different users using codes gives rise to the
term Code Division Multiple Access.
