The latest model of the Raspberry Pi, The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ has a series of new features that should make it an attractive offering to embedded systems engineers and makers looking to explore advanced applications such as machine learning.

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B has gotten an upgrade focused on making it an even better tool for serious embedded applications engineers and makers looking to explore more advanced applications such as AI and machine learning.

Here's a quick rundown of the Model B+ specs:

  The newly released Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, uses an updated version of the same processor as its predecessor, but in a new package that squeezes out even more performance. The Model B+ is built around Broadcom's BCM2837B0 64-bit processor, which now incorporates power integrity optimizations and a heat spreader, allowing the single-board computer to reach higher clock speeds, reduce power consumption, and better control the temperature of the chip.

Finnish university's FREE online Aritificial Intelligence course

While a lot of companies like Google who have integrated artificial intelligence into their systems, there is a growing curiosity amongst individuals to understand the technology better and how it has started to affect our everyday lives.

Helsinki University in Finland has launched a course on artificial intelligence -- one that's completely free and open to everyone around the world. Unlike Carnegie Mellon's new undergrad degree in AI, which the institution created to train future experts in the field, Helsinki's offering is more of a beginner course for those who want to know more about it.

As you know that Facebook uses AI for facial recognition, a lot of people might not. Indeed, Helsinki's course focuses on the basics, starting with defining what AI is and explaining how it can solve problems. The online course is called The Elements of Artificial Intelligence and is available completely in English.


 
 The materials also discuss how AI is already used in the real world, and in the second part of the course, they explain how machine learning works and what neural networks are.
It will apparently take you about 30 hours to complete the course, which can earn you two academic credits through the Open University if you're from Finland. If you live elsewhere, you'll just have to make do with a certificate you can display on LinkedIn.

 

To enroll in the course, there are no prerequisites and it is available globally.
You have an option to do the course at your own pace, but they recommend trying to finish in 6 weeks, however, according to their understanding, having a deadline makes it more likely that students will finish the course.

The course was designed by the University of Helsinki and Reaktor. The lead instructor of the course is Associate Professor Teemu Roos and the course is a part of the AI Education programme of the Finnish Center for AI.
