Meru Cabs India launches new mobile website for smartphones

Meru Cab, India’s largest radio cab service provider has upgraded its mobile website, to the HTML 5 version, making cab bookings simpler and quicker for customers on the go. It is designed for touch phones. The website is optimized for touch screens and enables cab bookings directly and quickly from Smartphones. Through this app one can avail of various cutting edge and user friendly facilities like: Trip details stored in the account – One can save themselves the time and the effort of having to type the pick up and drop address each time a cab booking is made. Through this facility, address details of past 5 trips are stored in one’s personal account and regular pick up or drop addresses like “home” or “office” can be saved in My Favourites. Track your cab - A great feature that enables, customers who have received a booking confirmation, to track the proximity of the cab through a map on the website and keep a check on the arrival time. Other facilities include the convenience of booking the cab within a couple of clicks, calling the driver assigned for pick up with a single click, accessing a record of the receipt over the phone, rating  the service etc. Meru Cabs CTO, Nilesh Sangoi, said,“Over the past few years, touch screen based smart phones have gained rapid popularity and have captured a large part of the market share. iWatch: Apple 'secretly developing smart watch with a touch screen'

The Apple iWatch

Apple is said to be secretly developing a smart watch with a touch screen that can be used to text, send emails and link to Facebook.
Dubbed the iWatch, the device is said to have a 1.5in screen that can communicate with other devices such as the tech giant’s iPhone.
Apple manufactures its products in China and sources there said the company was working with a computer chip maker.
If the rumours are true the watch is likely to be the must-have device of 2013 among a range of amazing gadgets.
Google is also set to release its Google Glass, a pair of spectacles that users can talk to in order to take pictures, send a text, use Google maps and make videos.
Another smart watch is also in development.
Called Pebble, the watch can be used by runners and cyclists to track their training while also changing songs. Messages and emails will also pop up on the screen.

The smartphone-like car mirror

This one was just a matter of time.
I've not yet performed a hands-on test on the clumsily named CTMD43 from Intraphex, but it places a 4.3-inch smartphone-like touch-screen on the left half of the mirror; it fades away when you don't need it for full-mirror use. You can see it in action here; as of this writing it was not posted to the Intraphex site yet.
When it's on, you see a touch- and voice-controlled nav system that is largely the same as in some current Subaru cars: functional, if not state of the art. It will also show the optional rearview camera when you're in reverse.
If you have a hot spot in the car, the mirror will connect to it, allowing Google search for places to navigate to.
At $900, the list price is steep, so shop for a deep discount. Shops will be the main point of purchase for this mirror, but you know how things get out for sale on the Internet, and I bet it isn't too hard to install.

Aakash-2 launched, to cost Rs 1,130 for students

Aakash 2 ultra low-cost tablet, successor of Aaksash tablet was launched by the President of India , Pranab Mukherjee and the Human Resources & Development (HRD) Minister, MM Pallam Raju. It comes at a price tag of Rs. 1,130 for students, while the commercial version, UbiSlate 7Ci is available for purchase at Rs. 4,499. DataWind would supply 100,000 units of Aakash 2 to IIT Bombay and also aims to distribute them to Engineering colleges and universities. It comes with upgraded specifications including a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and has 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, 32GB expandable memory and a front-facing camera.
Datawind launched range of UbiSlate tablets, UbiSlate 7Ri, UbiSlate 7R+, UbiSlate 7Ci and UbiSlate 7C+ in September. The UbiSlate 7Ri and UbiSlate 7R+ comes with a restistive touch screen, while the UbiSlate 7Ci and UbiSlate 7C+ have a capacitive touch screen similar to the Aakash 2.
The UbiSlate 7Ci is now available for Rs. 4,499 from UbiSlate website, which would take 1 week to ship (varies depending on backlog) if you make online payment. You can also Pre-Pay by Cheque, Demand-draft or pay Cash on Delivery (COD). The UbiSlate 7C+ with GPRS support is available for pre-order and would take 3 to 4 weeks to ship.

India’s first 3D tablet launched

One of the new tablets launched by California-based Swipe Telecom happens to be the country’s “first 3D tablet”.
The price of the tablet ranges from Rs 5,999 to Rs 6,999, while the one with phone facility is priced at Rs 8,999. The tablets run on Android 4.03 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system and are targeted towards kids and youth. It provides stupendous experience of 3D gaming and 3D videos. It comprises of a 7″ TFT Five Point Touch Capacitive screen packing 800×480 pixels. Under the hood, 3D LIFE is powered on an A13 Cortex processor on a blistering1.5GHZ clock speed, 4GB internal memory and a 512 MB DD RAM. The tablet can play videos for 5-6 hours at stretch offers a large battery life with a 3400 m AH battery.
The domestic tablet PC market was 0.95 million units or Rs 2,200 crore in 2011, and is expected to touch 2.2 million units this year.The company is backed by Mantra Ventures with commitment of $ 10 million, and is also in discussion with other PEs for an additional $ 20 million.

BSNL TABLETS PENTA TPAD IS701R LAUNCHED at Rs 3250 (app. $ 75)

BSNL has launched three tablets including two 7 inch resistive screen based tabs with Android 2.3 operating system while the third tablet comes with an 8 inch capacitive touchscreen.

Made by Noida based company - Pantel, the tablets will be sold with discounted data plans from BSNL. The three tablets are priced at Rs 3,250, Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,500.

The cheapest model is Panta Tpad IS 701r which is priced at Rs 3,250. Notably, Aakash is priced at just Rs 2500. However, Tpad has better specification than the Datawind's low cost tablet.

Panta Tpad is a WiFi only tablet with Android 2.3 operating system, it has a 1 GHz processor (ARM11 IMAP210) clubbed with 256 MB RAM. The tablet also offers HDMI port through which it can be connected to a TV. Its 7 inch resistive touch screen comes with 800x600 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.
