Applivate, a New Haven-based startup company, recently launched its
premiere product, ShugaTrak, a smartphone app for parents of children
with diabetes. When a child with diabetes measures blood glucose,
ShugaTrak gets the result and sends it to parents in text messages and
emails instantly and effortlessly.
“ShugaTrak is perfect for parents of children with diabetes,” John
Fitzpatrick, co-founder, CEO of Applivate, said. “These parents struggle
daily against a deadly disease, and the stress is greatest when they are
away from their children. ShugaTrak gives them peace of mind and lets
them know that readings are being taken and they can reach out if blood
glucose is too high or too low.”
Fitzpatrick’s inspiration for ShugaTrak was his wife, Sandra, who has
type 1 diabetes. He presented his idea at New Haven’s first Startup
Weekend in 2011 and collaborated with others to conceive ShugaTrak and
win the competition. Since then, the ShugaTrak app and website have been
developed and funding from state programs has been secured.
