Sprouts are full of nutrition and the best source of a balanced food. Sprouts are alkaline in nature and hence improve the health in many respects. They are helpful in complete purification of the body and also improves the disease fighting capacity of the body. Sprouts also increase the nutritiounal value of food.

In order to maintain good health, 80% of the food should be alkaline and 20% should be acidic, which should necessarily include raw food and sprouts in good quantity. Sprouts are best medicine for the body. Sprouts are the germinated seeds of lentils or grains, and this germination process gives a lot of beneficial qualities for health.

Why are sprouts essential?

In the present life style, food habits are changing fast and in an unnatural way. This has a bad impact on our health. The main reason for most of the diseases is wrong food habits, life style and negative thinking. Sprouts are the best solution for improving wrong food habits. The use of sprouts as a part of daily food fulfills the need for alkaline and acidic food requirement, which is important for maintaining good health.

Use of Sprouts

Any healthy or unhealthy person can eat sprouts but the quantity should be less in the beginning and they should be chewed properly. Cucumber, tomato, green chillies, coriander and lemon can be added to enhance the taste and also make it more nutritious. Sprouts are the germinated seeds of lentils or grains, and this germination process gives lot of beneficial qualities for health. If an ill person consumes raw foods then he or she can overcome health related problems very easily. If a healthy person eats sprouts regularly then he or she can prevent several diseases and also improve their health.

All grains cannot be sprouted. Sunflower, pulses, kidney bean, gram, soybean, fenugreek, and wheat seeds can be sprouted. These sprouts can be taken after consultation with doctor or an expert.

At the time of sprouting wheat, special care should be taken to avoid fungus formation. Use a glass jar to make wheat sprouts or some other special sprout makers that are available in the market and put it under the sun in the morning.

Benefits of Sprouts
  • Sprouts are natural, fresh and a complete food. They are easily digestible, they control weight and are tasty, besides being nutritious.
  • Some sprouts have more vitamin C, iron, riboflavin, niacin, and phosphorous. Therefore it is a good source of vitamins and minerals.

  • The starch found in sprouts converts into glucose, fructose and maltose. It not only enhances taste but also improves the digestion. The process of sprouting is slower in lentils when compared to grains.

  • Sprouts are nutritious for the body in a natural way.
  • Sprouts are a complete food and free from adulteration.
  • The body gets necessary nutrition from sprouts.
  • Sprouts help alcohol addicts to get rid of this problem.
  • Sprouts should be taken raw as boiling, cooking or roasting destroys its nutrition value. However, it can be steam cooked. Old people, who cannot chew sprouts, should grind it and eat the paste. This will not reduce the nutritional value of sprouts.
  • Sprouts of kidney beans, fenugreek, gram and other grains can be made in a glass jar or damp cloth. Wash the grains or lentils thoroughly in water at least three to four times. Remove the bad seeds and place the good ones in a glass jar and fill it with four times water. Soak overnight, and spread on a cotton cloth, tie it nicely and keep it aside. During summer season, sprinkle cold water on the sprout bag prepared in this manner to retain the moisture. Sprouts appear the next morning. The sprouting process takes more time during winter season than summer season. Sprinkle water inside the jar also at regular intervals.
  • Do not store the sprouts for many days. Use fresh sprouts and wash it once in water before eating.
  • The seeds, grains or lentils chosen for making sprouts should be fresh, new, clean, and free from chemicals. Some seeds cannot be sprouted during this process. Select and remove the unhealthy seeds.
Best seeds suitable for sprouting:
  • Kidney beans can be easily sprouted. They contain vitamin A, E and C.
  • Fenugreek has a strong and bitter taste. It has curative power. It is used in the treatment of diabetes and arthritis.
  • Gram is sprouted since ancient times. It provides vitamins, protein and minerals. Sprouts are like nectar. Eat them raw to improve your health.

Stomach Ache: Causes and Cure According to Ayurveda

There are different types of stomach ache - problems of gas, burning sensation, shooting pain, stomach ache lasting for long intervals, etc. Most of the stomach problems are caused due to the food we eat and contaminated water. Symptoms of Stomach Ache:

The common symptoms of stomach disorder are dysentery, irregular bowels, constipation, indigestion, gas, loss of appetite, uncomfortable feeling in the stomach, vomiting, dysentery with blood, burning sensation in the stomach, urine and chest, acidity, jaundice and irregular menstruation in the women. It is always advised to take medicines only after knowing the cause and practice the proper asana related to the disease. Yoga asana is one action which has the capacity to cure serious diseases.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Worms

Whipworm, threadworm, hookworm, tapeworm and other worms cause infection in the stomach. Children and adults generally complain of stomach ache due to these worms. Along with these symptoms the patient can have dysentery, anemia, malnutrition, swelling in the appendix, jaundice, cough, rising heartbeat, bile related eruptions on the body and other problems. Tapeworm's yeast present in the brain can cause fits. The chances of liver and lung problems are also increased.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Peptic Ulcer

When hydrochloric acid is secreted in an excess quantity in the upper portion of Dryden's pipe of the small intestine or the security cover is spoiled, the patient can develop wounds, pain in the middle part of the stomach, burning sensations, vomiting, acidity, and burning sensation in the chest can occur.

If the treatment is delayed, there is a chance of blood vomiting or blood excreted along with the bowels (black colored stools are passed) due to the secretion of blood. A hole can be formed in the stomach or the intestine. This condition is formed in very rare cases.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Gastroenteritis

Painkillers (allopathic medicines) are extremely harmful. The chance of Gastroenteritis increases with the consumption of liquor, some medicines like Disprin, Aspirin, and Cortisone, etc. Also virus or kidney infection can cause swelling of the covering of the stomach and wounds are formed in the stomach. This causes pain in the upper part of the stomach, vomiting, loss of appetite and other problems. Repeated vomiting can drain off necessary substances from the body. Gastroenteritis occurs suddenly and the best way to protect from this disease is intake of clean, hygienic and pure food. Avoid consumption of liquor, smoking cigarette, bidi etc. Do not take painkillers. Do not consume liquor and any such thing.

If this disease has attacked a person, it is good to take milk, ice cream and take the help of Ayurvedic medicines and yoga asana. Do not allow the formation of constipation.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Colitis

This disease is caused due to the consumption of contaminated water and food. This disease spreads due to the infection of tuberculosis, amoeba, foreign bodies, Shigela Bacteria, ulcerative colitis etc. This causes swelling of the large intestine. There is acute pain in the lower part of the stomach. Along with it, dysentery, mucous in the bowels, blood, and pus start developing. Some people also have the complaint of mild fever, loss of appetite, etc. Consume clean and pure water to protect from this disease. Do not consume canned food available in the market. Avoid stale food, chaat, pakora's, fruits sold in the open etc. Protect the food, milk, and water from getting polluted with cockroaches, mosquitoes and bees. Wash your hands with an antiseptic based soap before taking food and after passing bowels. Take the help of ayurvedic medicines and yoga asana to cure this disease. Taking ayurvedic medicines and practicing yoga asana is the best alternative to cure any type of stomach disease.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Tuberculosis of the Intestine

Stomach ache persists incase of tuberculosis of the intestine. This causes swelling and wounds in the intestines and starts bleeding. Weight loss, loss of appetite, mild fever, swelling in the lymphatic glands and peritoneal membrane, which leads to acute pain in the stomach. The stomach swells up and there is severe pain near the navel and all its sides. Constipation or dysentery also occurs. Gas is accumulated in the stomach and vomiting begins. The patient feels weak. Tuberculosis of the intestine can be treated with Ayurveda and effective yoga asana. The patient will recover soon and become healthy with regular practice of yoga asanas.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Appendicitis Pain

Appendicitis pain is unbearable. It arises suddenly; it begins from the middle part of the stomach and carries on to the right side of the stomach. It also causes fever, vomiting and uncomfortable feeling. This disease and pain can be cured with Ayurveda and highly effective asana. Regular practice can completely cure this disease, but only if it is detected very early.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Liver Cancer

A patient with liver cancer has a liver as hard as a stone. The patient suffers with pain in the upper right part of the stomach and this gradually increases. Loss of appetite, jaundice, weakness and weight loss are some of the common symptoms. Liver cancer is caused due to the consumption of liquor or due to poison in fungus infected grains. Causes of Stomach Ache: Kidney Stones

Stones in the kidney cause acute pain in the right side of the stomach, back, spine, and lower urinary bladder and in the genitals in men. Vomiting, burning sensation, pain and bleeding in the urine can be caused. Children generally have stones in the bladder and experience unbearable pain in the lower part of the stomach. The patients suffering with this problem should drink a lot of water and consume curd, rice, and tomato in very less quantity. Ayurvedic medicines dissolve the stones and they are excreted through the urine. Regular practice of yoga asana cures this disease.

Causes of Stomach Ache: Wound in the Liver

Amoeba foreign bodies and hydride yeast cause pain in the upper right side and middle part of the stomach. This pain gradually passes on to the right side of the chest and shoulders.

Swelling of the liver is also caused due to the infection of hepatitis virus. This causes pain in the upper right side of the stomach and jaundice. Along with these symptoms the patient gets mild fever, loss of appetite, yellow urine and other related problems.

Ayurvedic medicines can cure the patients completely. Practice of yog asana will make the person completely healthy. Stop eating non-vegetarian food and stop consumption of liquor to protect from liver diseases because the main cause of 90 per cent of the stomach related problems is liquor and meat.

Tuberculosis of the intestine and ulcer are caused due to drinking raw or improperly boiled milk. Always boil the milk properly before consuming it in any form. Do not consume paan masala , gutkha (tobacco), high fatty food, oil, sour, or spicy food. Quit smoking and stop drinking alcohol. Eat pure vegetarian food instead of meat. Bollywood Aerobics
Step aside plain, simple aerobic routines, this is the day and age of Bollybics — that’s what Bollywood Aerobics is popularly called. Have you realised, those super sexy jhatkas and matkas our Bollywood heroines do with so much ease can indeed make for a perfectly fun workout. “Adapted to the beats of popular filmi music, Bollybics is an aerobic workout that helps burn intense calories while dancing to your favourite songs,” says Anchal Gupta, owner of a popular Sion based dance studio. The sequence consists of a warm up and aerobic routine — using signature movie dance steps — targetted at specific body parts and then, a cool down session. “The music is fast paced and non stop, and if done right, one can burn upto 700 calories per session,” says trainer Rupesh Pednekar.

While ghazals are used for the warm-up and the cool down sessions, fast paced movie tracks are used for the aerobic routine. This dance cum exercise form uses signature movie dance steps. “It’s a fun and exhilarating workout. And, when you do it in a group, you feel motivated to go on, even if you get tired,” says Anchal. So put on some rocking movie songs and adapt a few regular dance steps to it and lo behold, it’s Bollybics you’re doing.

Kickboxing:
Martial arts have always been very popular. But the newest rage in town in kickboxing. Whoever’s into it swears by how amazing a workout it is. A part of the martial arts family, kickboxing combines the style of boxing with kicking. A full contact sport often practiced as self-defence, it also makes for a perfect workout. And here’s why. “Kickboxing is intensive cardio. Also, unlike a gym workout, it is a total body workout. Kickboxing involves both, cardio and contact which helps in increasing flexibility and toning up. Besides these, there are various stretching exercises and abdominal workouts that one is made to do,” explains kickboxing trainer Amit Lalwani. Another form, Muay Thai, meanwhile, is the art of eight limbs which uses the whole body especially the hips and core. “A Muay Thai workout helps increase not only agility, speed, strength but also, cardiovascular endurance,” says Amit. And while this exercise form is a great stress reliever, you can also pick up a few important self-defence techniques.

Dancersize:
This is a fun activity that consists of half an hour of an intensive workout and half an hour of a dance routine which includes steps from hip-hop and jazz. And the routine is simple. The first half of the session consists of warm ups including stretching which helps tone up the muscles and burn away the inches. The second half meanwhile is a cardio session which helps give the body a total workout. “Apart from the exercise that one gets, this is also a good way to learn a form of dance and develop a sense of style. The routines are never repeated making it a perfect option for people who detest going to the gym,” says participant Purvi Shah.

Power Yoga:
While you may extol the benefits of practising yoga daily, if weight loss is your goal, it may not be enough. The solution? Step it up a notch with power yoga. Put simply, power yoga is yoga adapted to the beats of music. This form of yoga is fast paced and quite a strenuous exercise. How’s it done? There are no fixed poses to be followed, the variations depend on the instructor. “In power yoga, the emphasis is on strength and elasticity of the body. A 45-minute power yoga workout done even just thrice a week will show wondrous effects on your body,” says Laxmi Wagle who is learning this yoga form.
