Cloud RAN
Distributed Node-B architecture called Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) is the new paradigm in base stations architecture that aims to reduce the number of cell sites while increasing the base station deployment density bypassing some of the zoning and construction hurdles to brining up new sites on-air. Metro cities like NY, LA and SFO already have a high density of Cell towers. As LTE and more complex wireless technologies are being deployed – would it not make sense to re-use and harness the existing infrastructure?
The concept of the Cloud RAN comes with a new architecture that breaks down the base station into a Base Unit (BU) – a digital unit that implements the MAC PHY and AAS (Antenna Array System) functionality, and the Remote Radio Head (RRH) that obtains the digital (optical) signals, converts digital signals to analog, amplifies the power, and sends the actual transmission. By making the RRH an active unit capable of converting from analog to digital, operators can now place numerous BUs in a single geographical point while distributing the RRUs according to the RF plans. The RRH becomes an intelligent antenna array which not only submits RF signals but also handles the conversion between digital and modular data. New RRH can also support multiple cellular generation (2G, 3G and LTE) eliminating the need for multiple antennas.
The Cloud RAN lowers operating expenses and simplifies the deployment process. By centralizing all the active electronics of multiple cell sites, at one location (aka the “Base Station Server”), energy, real-estate and security costs are minimized. The RRH can be mounted outdoor or indoor – on poles, sides of buildings or anywhere a power and a broadband connection exist, making installation less costly and easier. The RRH is typically connected using fiber to the BU, creating cloud-like radio access network topology. This topology saves costs both during the installation and later on technology upgrades for both software as well as hardware saving the operators millions of dollars in CAPEX/OPEX.

Microwave - Experienced
Candidates will be responsible for multiple aspects of microwave network design, implementation, and performance management. This would include: design of microwave networks using software and analysis tools; site selection support; path profile/line of sight analysis; microwave network field tuning/optimization; interference measurement/tracking; and ongoing capacity/performance management.
Responsibilities:
* Develop microwave design(s), using licensed and unlicensed frequencies, which support the deployment or upgrade of next generation wireless broadband networks.
* Utilize software propagation/planning tools such as Pathloss, along with defined design standards, to create high quality microwave designs.
* Drive the effort to create a strong microwave backhaul design that maximizes performance and link availability while also meeting budgetary objectives.
* Effectively manage design projects and any issues that arise to insure that they meet aggressive deployment timelines.
* Perform capacity planning based on network topology and site tonnage.
* Plan and implement ring load balancing to ensure most efficient use of existing capacity.
* Ensure internal and customer design information stores, such as CV and IP tables, are updated with new/changed design info.
* Lead the effort to identify, quantify and resolve cases of interference.
* Create MOP's as required for network changes.
* Create NTM tickets as required for resolution of network issues.
Qualifications:
This position is intended for an experienced engineer and requires a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, IP networking, and strong general computer skills. Additionally, communication and problem solving skills are equally important, given the fast pace and dynamic nature of the business.
Specific Position Requirements are:
* Bachelors of Electronics & Communication Engineering or similar field
* Minimum of 3 years experience in design of a MW network.
* Excellent understanding of RF propagation.
* Basic knowledge of IP networking
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

WiMAX Network Survey:Guideline
Companies or cities that have decided to or are considering building and operating wireless broadband networks have several important issues to consider in terms of how to proceed. Once demographic, competitive, financial, commercial and/or residential market analysis is complete, the operator must conduct a thorough engineering site survey of the area to be served. Once that is completed, the data learned and gathered during the survey will aid in the development of a preliminary network design.The initial spectrum for WiMAX in the US is unlicensed spectrum in the 5GHz range. Given that this spectrum is 'open to the public', it has inherent interference issues and risks which need to be studied carefully. A quality site survey can provide an invaluable insight into current or potential interference issues. As will be discussed in the WiMAX network design document, there are many effective ways to minimize interference in unlicensed WiMAX networks both from a site selection and equipment selection perspective.
The In-field Site Survey
A site survey is required, in short, because the operator wants to minimize the "unknowns" regarding the network prior to construction and the operator wants to develop a vision of "how" the network will work once it is built.
| A site survey provides the necessary information for a complete WiMAX network blueprint, or design, which is needed in order to minimize hurdles and costly mistakes as the network is being built-out. A quality site survey will be precise to the last frequency, spectrum analysis, connector, nut & bolt. |
These wireless network variables include:
- The impact of the fresnel zone on signal propagation
- The difference between passive gain and powered amplification, and when use of each is appropriate
- The orchestration of sector, space, frequency and polar diversification(s)
- The use of a Front to Back ratio
- How many channels are available for use and where are potential interferers located
- The +/- 3dB rule and how it influences the link budget
- How and why "application" must drive the hardware
- Lastly, what to do when the light just won't come on
Quality wireless network engineers will have years of in-the-field experience recognizing and solving these issues. As wireless network planning is concerned, more information equals higher engineering and performance accuracy, which minimizes the total cost of network deployment. The operator's goal is to design a quality network with no surprises at the end.
Some elements of a standard RF site survey:
- A quality site survey starts several days before the site visit by documenting tower and other attachment sites available. Once these sites have been researched and documented, they should be geo-coded on a topological map to assist in selection of best candidates once on the ground. This prep work and mapping work will also reduce the time on the ground, thus reducing the overall site survey costs.

- Perform and document multi-spectrum (900MHz, 2.4GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5.3 and 5.8GHz) activity by utilizing a spectrum analysis, as appropriate to the application. This allows engineers to work around potential frequency issues before the fact, not onsite during installation with tower rigger crews charging by the hour as they wait for the solution.
- Spectrum analysis can be accomplished with varying degrees of precision. A scan of a frequency can be done in 10 minutes (with minimal collection of data) or in 10 hours (with considerably more data collection). It's even recommended to sweep both horizontal and vertical polarities, something most firms do not do.
- Detect and document existing wireless networks including SSID and frequency info.
- Verify available mounting locations/altitudes which aids in an accurate site parts list.
- Initial verification and planning for available A/C power helping eliminate onsite power issues.
- Verify visual LOS to target feeder tower's (potential tower bearings having already been determined pre-survey). This is a redundancy check against engineering software for potential manmade obstructions not represented in the software calculations.
- Verify available space on recommended towers (expedites the lease process by getting it right the first time) and the type of tower utilized. This information is provided to the tower owners during the lease process, and to the tower riggers and/or equipment vendor to insure that the right kind of mounting brackets are ready before installation.
- Deploy and evaluate a temporary test link to verify RF functionality for less than certain solutions. For all the recent science and technology, nothing works as dependably as installing and testing a system first.
- A detailed view of the operator's current or planned backhaul location and documentation of potential hand-off requirements.
- Identify many more location-specific issues that must be addressed and resolved in the final deployment plan.
- Identify the general tree foliage environment and document the estimated losses needed to apply to the coverage propagation software. Inputting reasonable losses for foliage will provide a more accurate picture of the overall coverage capability.

Through collaboration between Artech House publishers and the IEEE Communications Society, a free web tutorial has been made available to wireless engineers.
The tutorial will address a number of autonomous and intelligent techniques which can be applied to emerging high bandwidth systems to realize spectrum and network efficiency. It will address smart and effective design, including embedding intelligence and adaptivity features in radios, while maintaining a friendly user interface.
In order to achieve real 4G targets, further concentration will be on multi-antenna techniques, cognitive radios, advanced spectrum management, and cognitive radio techniques will be discussed.

• Cost control on operation and maintenance expanses.
• Monitoring of alarm reports and accordingly to ensure the clearance of same on daily basis.
• Daily study of network outages report and to find out the route cause and permanent resolution of same.
• Timely execution of prevantive maintenance schedules.
• Ensure 99.9 % network availability by taking corrective and prevantive actions.
• Interaction with technical support team in NNOC for resolution of typical technical problems.
• Ensure critical spares availability in circle by doing proper follow up with local logistic and National warehouse Mumbai.
Planning Skills
• Anticipate and identify deviations and keep all participants and stakeholders informed.
• Identify, log, analyse and manage potential and actual issues and risks, taking corrective action by tackling day-to-day issues head on and reviewing how more serious issues and risks might impact operations from quality and cost perspectives.
• Identify where and when management of issues and risks or accommodating altered requirements will involve extra time or extra resources and where efficiencies can be made.
Communication Skills
• Should be able to articulate and negotiate consensus with his team members on a final vision for efficient circle operations.
• Must be courteous in written and oral communication, and be able to get ideas across in a non-confrontational manner in one-to-one situations, small groups, and before large audiences.
Team Management Skills
• Will work directly with the team members or with their team leaders to estimate effort, plan activities and negotiate consensus among individual team members on their appointed tasks.
• Should have Vendor Management Skills
• Should be able to create and use Gantt charts, spreadsheets or other appropriate tools to manage people and tasks and keep up-to-date.
• Should be experienced in providing a team with direction and vision, including motivating people to perform, listening to people, providing feedback, recognising strengths and providing challenges.

FibeAir 1500HP is a high transmit power RFU (Radio Frequency Unit). It was designed to
enable high quality wireless communication in the most cost-effective way, including an ultra
