How to have Successful Elevator Pitch for your Startup !!

Elevator Pitch (more popular slang) or Elevator Speech is a short message about who you are, your career aims and the benefits you bring to the company or your startup.

In today’s fast moving world we know how communication skills play an important role in workplaces. An elevator speech is one of those effective communication tools that can potentially lead you to a success in your career.

It got its name from the scenario of the professional who walks into his or her office building and gets in the elevator with the CEO. ‘So tell me,’ she says, ‘who are you and what do you do here?’ With the average elevator ride reported to be 16 seconds, you can’t waste time. This is your chance; you have a captive audience with someone influential in the company.

Although it may seem trivial or unlikely, every professional is advised to have an elevator speech. You never know when the opportunity will arise, do you think you will be ready?

Ideally, you would like to give an articulate, concise summary that conveys that you are an intelligent professional, are involved in your work and can express yourself well to others.

What is Success for you in life?

Success has various meanings, depending on the point of view of the person trying to achieve it.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as ‘favorable or desired outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence’.
Are wealth, respect or fame your measures of success? Is that really all that it comes down to?
Let’s take a look at what some prominent figures consider success to be.
Arianna Huffington—Founder of Huffington Post

Most people think of success as money and power. To live the lives we truly want and deserve, we need to add another dimension. Huffington says this dimension ‘consists of four pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder and giving’.

 Winston Churchill—Former British Prime Minister

Churchill defined success as ‘going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm’. So we might need to persevere even in tough times to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Sir Richard Branson—businessman/entrepreneur

Branson says that ‘too many people measure how successful they are by how much money they make or the people they associate with’. He suggests true success should be measured by how happy you are.

 Leila Hoteit—partner and manager at BCG

In her TED talk, Leila, an Arab engineer, advocate and mother in Abu Dhabi, summarises her key to success as: having the resilience ‘to convert shit into fuel’, working on your home life with the same energy you work on your career and realising collaborating is more productive than competing.

Success according to these prominent figures can be summed up as:

• giving (volunteering)
• persistence (drive through the tough times)
• happiness (don’t just work yourself to the bone, enjoy life outside of work).

A 99% Challenge - shortstory

Here is a small situation, where many of us will have a wrong answer to the question, as most of us think it from a negitive prespective in any such given situation.

Once there was a loving couple traveling in a bus in a mountainous area. They decided to get down at some place. After the couple got down, the bus moved on. As the bus moved on, a huge rock fell on the bus from the mountain and crushed the bus to crumbs. Everybody on board was killed. The couple upon seeing that, said, "We wish we were on that bus" Why do they said that?

As they thought :
If they had remained on the bus instead of deciding to get down, the resulting time delay could have been avoided and the rock would have fallen after the bus had passed ..!!! Think positive in life always and look for opportunities when you can help Others......
Many times in life, the opposite of Success is not Failure, its Quitting.

Winners never quit, quitters never Win....

A. 60% of a successful interview is Enthusiasm , Excitement and Energy !!
• Smile.
• Stay positive (no one likes negativity).
• Use 60-80% eye contact.
• If you don't know what to do with your hands, talk with them.
• If you have trouble exuding energy try a pot of coffee.

B. 20% of the interview is selling you.
• Sales process.
• FEB selling.

C. 20% of the interview is the close. The CLOSE can Make or Break future Interviews! Be Assertive and Aggressive!
• The interview is a sales call; you are the product.
• Ask questions.
• Overcome objections

DO'S & DON'TS OF INTERVIEWING

You'll never get a second chance to make a first impression.

BEFORE THE INTERVIEW

DO dress in a plain navy or dark colored business suit. Men: White shirt and conservative tie, Dark socks, Formal well-shined shoes. Women: Light colored blouse, Conservative pumps (color of suit), Light colored stockings
DO research the company.
DO examine sales books in order to brush up on your sales techniques.
DO arrive 10-15 minutes before an interview.
DO bring a copy of your resume.
DO prepare a copy of references.
DO bring a pen and notebook to takes notes before, during and after the interview.
DO prepare questions to ask during the interview.
DO greet everyone in the office with a smile and hello.
DO fill out all applications neatly and completely.
DO greet the interviewer with a smile and by his/her surname.
DO give a firm handshake.
DO make direct eye contact.
DO psyche yourself up! It's O.K. if you are nervous or a little frightened. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
DON'T be unprepared for the interview.

DURING THE INTERVIEW

DO be yourself. People can tell when you are faking it.
DO have a positive attitude. Life is good!
DO be confident. You are the kind of employee this employer needs.
DO represent yourself honestly.
DO maintain direct eye contact.
DO sit up straight.
DO use FEB selling to answer employer's questions.
DO ask questions about the position, company and the interviewer.
DON'T ask questions about salary, commission, bonuses, vacations or anything else the company can do for you. Wait until you've gotten the job offer.
DON'T get too comfortable. Remain professional and on guard.
DON'T ever say anything negative. Be careful when talking about past and present employers.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

DO jot down notes to help you remember the highlights of the interview (questions, your impressions, your performance). This will help you in the future interviews and writing thank you letters.
DO fax, email or drop off a thank you letter with-in 24 hours.
