Coaster charges phones using energy from hot or cold drinks

alttext

Regular readers of Springwise may remember our recent coverage of the PowerPot, a cooking device that takes advantage of disparities in thermal energy to power phone chargers. Now the Epiphany onE Puck aims to achieve something similar, enabling anyone to charge their handset using hot or cold drinks.
The device is shaped like a hockey puck, acting as a coaster for cups and tumblers. It works in a similar way to a Stirling engine – technology that has been around for 200 years – which uses the energy from the heat conduction process to power a constant cycle of expanding fluids inside the coaster. The energy from the motion of these fluids is then converted into electricity. One side is colored red and the other blue – hot drinks are placed on the red side and cold drinks on the reverse. Users can plug any USB-charged device into the onE Puck, such as an iPhone, Android handset or mp3 player. Given that many office workers rely on tea or coffee to get them through the day, the onE Puck simply takes advantage of the energy those drinks give out to power phones without taking from the grid.

Solar Smartphone Display Could Lead to Endless Battery Life

invented nice logo about OLED technologyImage via WikipediaAlthough smartphone technology has advanced rapidly over the last few years with the advent of multicore mobile processors, high fidelity displays and a wider breadth of multimedia applications, power consumption remains a persistent issue. Many models require recharging before reaching a full day's worth of use, but with a new OLED display technology that can actually recharge itself as it is being used, the days of keeping a charger close at hand may be numbered.
Researcher Arman Ahnood has developed a method to capture light otherwise wasted by OLED displays and convert it into energy that can be used to recharge a device's central battery unit. According to Ahnood, only 36-percent of the light produced by OLED displays is projected outward, while the rest is pointed toward the sides and rear. He claims that a thin layer of film containing photovoltaic cells can be applied to displays to gather the wasted energy, as well as capture ambient light from both manmade sources and the sun.
As of right now, however, Ahnood's findings offer a small amount of supplemental energy, but with further research it could reach higher efficiency levels.
In short, this concept could eventually lead to smartphones that recharge during use, potentially resulting in a virtually limitless energy supply.

"No" is the New "Yes": Four Practices to Reprioritize Your Life

I was sitting with the CEO and senior team of a well-respected organization. One at a time, they told me they spend their long days either in back-to-back meetings, responding to email, or putting out fires. They also readily acknowledged this way of working wasn't serving them well — personally or professionally.
It's a conundrum they couldn't seem to solve. It's also a theme on which I hear variations every day. Think of it as a madness loop — a vicious cycle. We react to what's in front of us, whether it truly matters or not. More than ever, we're prisoners of the urgent.
Prioritizing requires reflection, reflection takes time, and many of the executives I meet are so busy racing just to keep up they don't believe they have time to stop and think about much of anything.
Too often — and masochistically — they default to "yes." Saying yes to requests feels safer, avoids conflict and takes less time than pausing to decide whether or not the request is truly important.
Truth be told, there's also an adrenaline rush in saying yes. Many of us have become addicted, unwittingly, to the speed of our lives — the adrenalin high of constant busyness. We mistake activity for productivity, more for better, and we ask ourselves "What's next?" far more often than we do "Why this?" But as Gandhi put it, "A 'no' uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'yes' merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble."
Saying no, thoughtfully, may be the most undervalued capacity of our times. In a world of relentless demands and infinite options, it behooves us to prioritize the tasks that add the most value. That also means deciding what to do less of, or to stop doing altogether.
Making these choices requires that we regularly step back from the madding crowd. It's only when we pause — when we say no to the next urgent demand or seductive source of instant gratification — that we give ourselves the space to reflect on, metabolize, assess, and make sense of what we've just experienced.
Taking time also allows us to collect ourselves, refuel and renew, and make conscious course corrections that ultimately save us time when we plunge back into the fray.
What follows are four simple practices that serve a better prioritized and more intentional life:
1. Schedule in your calendar anything that feels important but not urgent — to borrow Steven Covey's phrase. If it feels urgent, you're likely going to get it done. If it's something you can put off, you likely will — especially if it's challenging.
The key to success is building rituals — highly specific practices that you commit to doing at precise times, so that over time they become automatic, and no longer require much conscious intention or energy. One example is scheduling regular time in your calendar for brainstorming, or for more strategic and longer term thinking.
The most recent ritual I added to my life is getting entirely offline after dinner each evening, and on the weekends. I'm only two weeks into the practice, but I know it's already created space in my mind to think and imagine.
2. As your final activity before leaving work in the evening, set aside sufficient time — at least 15 to 20 minutes — to take stock of what's happened that day. and to decide the most important tasks you want to accomplish the next day.
Clarifying and defining your priorities — what the researcher Peter Gollwitzer calls "implementation intentions" — will help you to stay focused on your priorities in the face of all the distractions you'll inevitably face the following day.
3. Do the most important thing on your list first when you get to work in the morning, for up to 90 minutes. If possible, keep your door closed, your email turned off and your phone on silent. The more singularly absorbed your focus, the more you'll get accomplished, and the higher the quality of the work is likely to be. When you finish, take a break to renew and refuel.
Most of us have the highest level of energy and the fewest distractions in the morning. If you can't begin the day that way, schedule the most important activity as early as possible. If you're one of the rare people who feels more energy later in the day, designate that time instead to do your most important activity.
4. Take at least one scheduled break in the morning, one in the afternoon, and leave your desk for lunch. These are each important opportunities to renew yourself so that your energy doesn't run down as the day wears on. They're also opportunities to briefly take stock.
Here are two questions you may want to ask yourself during these breaks:
1. Did I get done what I intended to get done since my last break and if not, why not?
2. What do I want to accomplish between now and my next break, and what do I have to say "no" to, in order to make that possible?

5 Simple Ways to Increase Your Intelligence

Your brain needs exercise just like a muscle. If you use it often and in the right ways, you will become a more skilled thinker and increase your ability to focus. Here are 5 simple techniques to exercise your brain.

Minimize Television Watching -- Watching television doesn't use your mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book instead. If you're too tired, listen to some music. When you're with your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation.

Exercise -- Time spent exercising always leads to greater learning because it improves productivity during the time afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave of energy.

Read Challenging Books -- If you want to improve your thinking and writing ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the world and will make you think in more precise, elegant English.

Early to Bed, Early to Rise -- Nothing makes it harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You'll be most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don't sleep more than 8 hours.

Take Time to Reflect -- Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you'll have a better understanding of what's important and what isn't.

5 Ways to stay energetic throughout the day

Don’t you notice that when you are happy and optimistic, you are likely to be energetic? Do you sometimes wonder how you can stay energetic throughout your day?

Studies show that the more fit one’s body is, the more one’s brain seems to benefit. Correct breathing, healthy eating and drinking habits, healthy body, and sports affect your success as the Roman proverb says, “A sound mind in a sound body.” Therefore, it is crucial that you take care of your body and understand the benefits of health.

Follow the below steps on how to stay energetic throughout the day:

1. Breathing

You might know that breathing is indispensable for everyone, but do you know that the majority of people do not breathe correctly? Start from today to work on your breathing skills for around 15 minutes a day. Start by taking deep breaths slowly, hold the breath for 10 seconds, then release.

2. Morning exercises

Spend around 20-30 minutes of your morning moving your body. You could do aerobics, yoga, walking, running, stretching, push ups, or anything that you like doing. The important thing is to move, relax, and strengthen your body and muscles.

3. Watch your eating habits

You have to make sure that you eat healthy food that is right for you as there is no health system that is good for everyone. People who are diabetic have to avoid eating lots of sweets and people who have high cholesterol must avoid eating red meat. Consult your doctor to find what kind of food is suitable for you.

You can start your day eating fruit and avoid eating fat and oily food. Make sure that you eat salad with your meals as salad provides the body with a lot of fiber which means you could lower your cholesterol, reduce your calories among other benefits.

4. Drink lots of water and liquids

Keep a bottle of water close to you all the time and drink water as much as possible to avoid dehydration. Drinking different kinds of juices is helpful as well. Drinking lots of water and drinking liquids are the key to stay dehydrated.

5. Positive thoughts

During the day, take a few minutes to clear your head from all the negative thoughts and focus only on positive thoughts and your future goals. Taking a few a minutes every day to relax and clear you head from all the negativity can do wonders.

Always remember what Mark Twain said, “And what is a man without energy? Nothing – nothing at all.”

Cisco Innovates...

Cisco has introduced Home energy systems that monitors usage of electricity and enables you to minimize wastage. It is a touch screen device with energy management software that enables you to maintain your electricity usage. This device is initially working with Duke Energy while Cisco has plans to provide it to other energy utilities too.
For all the home based devices this controller will be behaving as a hub and display their energy usage wirelessly. The devices can be connected using a two way switch while with the controller the devices will communicate via Zigbee protocol. In this manner you can connect several devices with the controller and make use of electricity efficiently.
Cisco plans to add more protocols apart from Zigbee. Cisco has ventured into the energy sector with companies like Duke Energy, Enmax, and Yellow Storm. It has also invested into a smart grid setup using wimax by Gridnet.

Both Google and Microsoft also provide web interfaces for your energy usage name Powermeter and Hohm application respectively. Cisco has first time introduced a handheld device for this purpose. Cisco is also involved in smart grid projects with IBM to develop an efficient electrical distribution system.
This is definitely a breakthrough in the energy sector by Cisco. However this concept should also be introduced in the developing countries to help them utilize electricity in the best way.

Wimax- Smart Grid Applications

With most of the cellular operators inclined towards the deployment and development of LTE, Wimax seems to lose its pace in the 4G race. That does not at all means that we have no Wimax to see in future, in fact it is now thriving with the introduction of Wimax based smart grid applications, machine to machine, public safety and surveillance applications.

Several Wimax smart application projects are underway. General Electric is working on the use of Wimax enabled smart meters, it’s the first ever kind of project in US. Cisco has invested in a Wimax smart application projects with Grid Net and co-partners like Siemens, GE, Accenture, Schneider Electric and Verizon. Alvarion announced its project with National Grid on smart power grid (SPG) using Wimax. Silver Springs Network in Florida provides connectivity to electricity, water and gas meters via Zigbee over a WAN with an IP based network. Microsoft’s SERA (Smart Energy Reference Architecture) is working for the promotion technology in the energy sector in collaboration with Puget Sound Energy, Xcel Energy and Seattle City Light.

According to ABI research investment in smart grid will reach up to $45 billion till 2015. With the rise in consumption of electricity has forced us to come up with feasible alternatives like renewable energy. Some are also in favor of solar energy. Wimax based stations of Intel are solar powered. Telenor is working on solar powered networks. Between 2010 and 2012 Alcatel is expected to install 10,000 based stations working on renewable energy.
Undoubtedly the energy demand will keep on escalating with time and the need for discovering renewable and cost effective energy sources will keep on growing. Wireless smart Grid applications may take time to progress but it presents an efficient electrical distribution mechanism.

M2M will become really big

It seems kind of odd to call a prediction that an industry segment will reach $18.9 billion an understatement, but in this case it may be so.

This week, Juniper Research pegged the mobile and embedded M2M industry at that amount worldwide by 2014. The press release says that consumer and commercial telematics – vehicle-bound M2M -- will represent more than a third of the total.

Nineteen billion dollars is a lot of money. But even that pot of gold pales in comparison to the promise of M2M. M2M covers smart grid, telematics and a mind-boggling number of other consumer and business services and applications. Indeed, the specter of M2M -- thousands of gadgets talking to millions of widgets -- is one of the reasons that Internet Protocol version 6 is being pushed so hard in some quarters.

Another example of the potential size of the market comes from Berg Insight. The firm says the European M2M module market will grow from 2.3 million last year to 22 million in 2014. Systems under surveillance – alarm systems and tracking devices watched from a monitoring center – will grow from 10 million to 34 million during the same period. The site goes into some detail on the composition of the market.

M2M provides a deeper look into smart meters, the element of the smart grid industry that has been around the longest. The story quotes ABI Research numbers that 76 million smart meters were deployed worldwide by the end of last year. That number will jump to 212 million by 2014. Lux Research, the story says, predicts that the value of the smart grid market overall will grow from $4.5 billion now to $15.8 billion in 2015. The advanced metering infrastructure and smart meters will represent more than $5 billion of that.

The only thing that is certain is that growth will be significant. The dangers of making precise predictions are evident in the recent findings: Juniper says that the mobile and embedded M2M market will reach $18.9 billion by 2014, while Lux says the smart grid market alone will finish 2015 only $3.1 billion short of that figure. One thing that these firms would agree on, however, is that this is a giant opportunity.

You can also read Juniper Research's paper, 'M2M ~ Rise of the Machines' here.

Bluetooth 4.0 promises to be more successful than Bluetooth 3.0

Apparently the Bluetooth 3.0 has a problem that it consumes too much power so even though the specs have been available for quite some time, they haven't been rolled out.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has said that the new version, Bluetooth 4.0, could be launching in the 4th quarter of this year with devices such as headsets, phones and PC’s all getting the technology.
The latest specification allows devices with smaller batteries to utilise Bluetooth. Previous versions of BT required that a device had at lease a AAA or larger capacity battery to function. The new 4.0 specifications allow for smaller devices that require coin-cell batteries to run.
As well as utilising less power, the device also has higher speed data transfer. Version 3.0 was launched last year although it kind of fell flat on it’s face due to the power requirements needed. Version 4.0 fixes those problems.
The new specification will carry the high-speed Wi-Fi feature introduced with Bluetooth 3.0. That allows devices to jump onto Wi-Fi 802.11 networks, where it can transfer data at up to 25Mbits per second.
Hopefully with the lower power requirements and the options to switch to 802.11 networks we should start seeing more devices using the Bluetooth specification.
However, Forrester Research analyst Charles Golvin believes the new standard nonetheless holds considerable appeal.
"These protocols are designed to be very efficient because they are delivering small bits of data," Golvin told PC World, adding that current technologies expended far too much energy to transmit data over short distances. “They'd be like pulling out a cannon to kill a mouse,” Golvin said.
Despite being certified nearly a year ago, the first Bluetooth 3.0+HS devices have yet to appear on the market.

SECRETS To A Great Life !!

A great life doesn’t happen by accident. A great life is the result of allocating your time, energy, thoughts, and hard work towards what you want your life to be. A great life is the result of using the 24/7 you get in a creative and thoughtful way, instead of just what comes next. Customize these “secrets” to fit your own needs and style, and start creating your own great life today!

1. S – Simplify.

A great life is the result of simplifying your life. People often misinterpret what simplify means. It’s not a way to remove work from your life. When you focus on simplifying your life, you free up energy and time for the work that you enjoy and the purpose for which you are here. In order to create a great life, you will have to make room for it in yours first.

2. E – Effort.

A great life is the result of your best effort. Creating a great life requires that you make some adjustments. It may mean re-evaluating how you spend your time, or choosing to spend your money in a different way. It may mean looking for new ways to spend your energy that coincide with your particular definition of a great life. Life will reward your best effort.

3. C – Create Priorities.

A great life is the result of creating priorities. It’s easy to spend your days just responding to the next thing that gets your attention, instead of intentionally using the time, energy and money you have in a way that’s important to you. Focus on removing the obstacles that get in the way of you making sure you are honoring your priorities.

4. R – Reserves.

A great life is the result of having reserves – reserves of things, time, space, energy, money, love. Simplify first in order to find a reserve, then build on that. For example, in order to find a reserve of time, first simplify by delegating a task to someone else, or simply dumping the task if it’s no longer important. With reserves, you are able to live your life looking forward instead of always digging yourself out of a hole.

5. E – Eliminate distractions.

A great life is the result of eliminating distractions. Up to 75% of your mental energy can be tied up in things that are draining and distracting you. Eliminating distractions can be a difficult concept to many people, since they haven’t really considered that there is another way to live. Look around at someone’s life that you admire. What do they do that you would like to incorporate into your own life? Ask them how they did it. Find ways to free up your mental energy for things that are more important to you.

6. T – Thoughts.

A great life is the result of controlling your thoughts so that you accept and allow for the possibility that it actually can happen to you! Your belief in the outcome will directly dictate how successful you are. Motivated people have specific goals and look for ways to achieve them. Believing there is a solution to the same old problems you encounter year after year is vitally important to creating a life that you love. Whatever you think and believe, you create. Listen to what you’re telling yourself, and adjust that voice if you need to.

7. S – Start!

A great life is the result of starting. There’s the old saying everyone’s familiar with “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In order to even move from the couch to the refrigerator, you have to start. There’s no better time to start than today. Don’t wait for a raise, or until the kids get older, or the weather is better. Today, right now, is the right day to start to take a step in the direction of your heart’s desires. It’s what you do TODAY that will make a difference in your life tomorrow.

Top 10 Annoying Habits at Work

1. You're Unprepared: "Showing up for meetings, interviews or arranged work sessions without the equipment or data that you need demonstrates a lack of respect for your coworkers and yourself," says Star. "And it wastes time. Get off on the right foot, and make like a scout and be prepared."

2. You're Not a Team Player: "You have to be willing to pitch in when another member of the team needs help," Star says. "There's nothing more annoying than watching somebody do a crossword puzzle while you're buried in work." And if a coworker needs a little time off to run an important errand, be flexible and help out when you can, she suggests.

3. You're Not Self-Reliant: Only ask for help when you really need it. "Giving up on the paper jam after only one try and expecting a coworker to fix it because you know she can does not contribute to good team spirit," says Star. Try everything you can to solve your own problem before involving somebody else.

4. You, Umm, Smell: Your scent is important, especially when you're working in a small, poorly ventilated space with lots of other people around. Be considerate of your neighbors by taking care not to generate strong smells that will permeate their space.

For instance, don't eat eggs or onions in the office, Star suggests. And if you smoke, be sure you air yourself out before you walk back in the office. The same goes for colognes. "Fragrance is a very personal choice, so it should be reserved for those who are close to you, not 20 yards away," says Star.

5. You're Loud on the Phone: Loud telephone conversations can be offensive to your neighbors, so try to keep your voice low and even. And keep personal calls short. "Phone fights or, worse yet, phone foreplay can really drive one up a wall after a certain point," says Star. "Remember that you are not in your living room."

6. You're Unhealthy: If you're sick, stay home. If you have the sniffles or must come in, cover your mouth and do whatever you can to avoid infecting your coworkers.

7. You Walk Like an Elephant: Try to move around the office quietly to avoid disturbing the people around you. And if you must speak to another colleague, keep your voice down.

8. Your Cell Phone Is Always On: Unless absolutely necessary, cell phones should be turned off while you're in the office. If you need to keep your phone on, use a soft or silent ringer or vibrate mode.

9. Your Computer Volume Is Blasting: Nobody wants to hear somebody else's bells and whistles when they're trying to concentrate.

10. You Shake Hands Like a Fish and Avoid Eye Contact: "When somebody won't look me in the eye or give me some energy in their handshake, I feel like they're avoiding me or snubbing me in some way," Star says. "I like a firm handshake and a friendly smile."

A flick of hand can cure you

How would you respond if I told you about a therapy that can tell you about ailments before they happen, just by scanning your body’s energy field, without actually touching you? Your first reaction would be of disbelief. After all, in this age and time, this sounds straight from a mumbo-jumbo flick. Hold your guns before jump to a conclusion. The therapy called Pranic healing is an ancient science and art of healing that utilizes prana or life energy to heal the whole physical body. Unusual though such information may seem, it is well documented in ancient Indian scriptures, such as the Taittiriya Upanishad, which deals with the body and its five layers.

Today, many doctors too are recommending their patients to get a dose of this healing as an adjunct to conventional healing.

The energy of life force is recognized in many other cultures and known by different names such as Chi in Chinese, Ki in Japanese, Mana in Polynesian, Pneuma in Greek, and Ruah in Hebrew. The main sources of prana, available in abundance, are air, sun, earth and the Divine. Prana can be projected to another person for healing. In fact, we all experience prana around us all the time, but we don’t register it. Go back to the memory of walking bare feet on dew-kissed blades of grass. It invigorates. So, are the first rays of sun when it touches your body, which means that these are imbued with natural energies and enliven you each time you come across it.

Like most of the alternative healing practices, Pranic healing is based on two fundamental laws:

The law of self-recovery: The body in general has the capacity to heal itself.
The law of life force or prana: For life to exist, the body must have prana or life energy. The healing process can be accelerated by increasing life energy on the affected part(s) and on the entire body.

How the healing system works

Yulia Pal, Pranic Healer with Delhi based MCKS Pranic Healing Center, says, “According to pranic healing, disease first appears in the energy body before rooting itself in the physical body. Any blockage, excessive build up of energy or depletion of it prevents prana (life-force energy) from flowing easily. This results in corresponding problems for the physical body. In this no-touch therapy, the healer transfers energy to heal the patient’s invisible energy body, which interpenetrates the physical body and extends a few inches from the skin’s surface.”

“Pranic healing is complements conventional therapy and does not supplant it,” informs she.

She got converted to this science of healing in March 1997. Over the period of time, the hobby grew into profession.

In today’s date most of us are afflicted with stress, and Pranic healing can help you manage stress. Master Choa Kok Sui, founder of Pranic healing says, “Stress is energy, and this energy is real. Thoughts are real. Negative thoughts, emotions dirty stress. What we call stress is our negative reaction to a taxing situation.”

To keep stress in control Yulia suggests to, “Bathe with warm water, salt, and use of lavender oil.”

What should you expect in a healing?

Pranic Healing session lasts approximately 1 hour. This can vary: some healers heal very fast, some healers heal very slowly. The speed of healing is not an indicator of healer’s skills.

The client can sit in a chair or may lie down, during a session of healing. He/ She should try to maintain a relaxed and receptive state during the session. It is better to wear loose garments made from natural fibers. Sometimes we can advise him to practice a simple form of pranayam (pranic breathing) intermittently or do a meditation.

What does the healer do?

  • The healer scans the energy body of the client. Scanning is detection of the condition the energy body, its chakras and meridians, and the whole aura with the hands. It is non-touch and it allows to see energy disbalances (in the form of energy congestion, depletion, over- and under-activity of chakras, etc.). The hands of a Pranic healer are very sensitive and they serve him as the “eyes” to see the inner realities.
  • After scanning, the healer performs general cleansing of the aura in order to remove diseased energy, strengthen the health rays and to close holes and breaks that may be present.
  • He does localized cleansing, energizing and balancing of the affected chakras and organs and overall balancing of the entire energy body. The healer continuously re-checks the results of her work by repeated scanning of the chakras/body.
  • The session is ended with balancing the whole aura.

Yoga as Preventive Therapy

MIAMI BEACH, FL - JUNE 11: (L-R) Hector Garci...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

From years of experience, I’ve discovered that Yoga helps bring natural order and balance to the neuro-hormones and metabolism in the body. Simultaneously, these practices improve endocrine metabolism, thereby providing you with a preventive shield. That’s what I also call my Curative Value

I believe it works like this: Yogasanas activate the energies that have accumulated and stagnated in the energy pockets of your body and since left inert, these energies create various ailments. Pranayama, or Yogic breathing exercises cleanse your body, mind and consciousness by venting toxins from the body. Then there are Yogic kriyas, cleansing techniques that rid the body of free radicals.

Yoga, I’ve found, also succeeds in integrating all aspects of action, wisdom, and peace into one. It aims at integration on three levels: Psychic integration, of the various facets of the self; Cosmic integration, of the aspects of the universe; and Existential integration that comes only when one fully realizes that the Self and the universe are one.

Believe it or not, Yoga can actually help reduce pain by helping your brain regulate the secretion of natural painkillers into the body? Pranayama, or breathing exercises commonly used in Yoga mostly help in this. The muscles tend to relax as you exhale; so lengthening your time of exhalationpain management. can help induce relaxation and reduce tension. Maintaining a certain awareness of one’s own breath helps achieve calmer, slower respiration and assists in relaxation and

Yoga can be a rewarding preventive therapy; a life-long activity that promotes health and maintains functions of organs as you age. It can be a part of almost everyone’s fitness plan as the different types of Yoga and the opportunities to advance and improve are boundless.

The healing power of water

The healing power of water

The fact that water has a high value in healing seems to be a knowledge that has gone missing in our day and age of sodas and coffee. Correct intake of water can cure many problems so lets take a closer look at water.

Some facts about water
Water is of major importance to all living things; in some organisms, up to 90 percent of their body weight comes from water. Up to 60 percent of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70 percent water, blood is 82 percent water, and the lungs are nearly 90 percent water.
The unique qualities and properties of water are what make it so important and basic to life. The cells in our bodies are full of water. The excellent ability of water to dissolve so many substances allows our cells to use valuable nutrients, minerals, and chemicals in biological processes. Water's "stickiness" (from surface tension) plays a part in our body's ability to transport these elements all through ourselves. The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolised and transported by water in the bloodstream. No less important is the ability of water to transport waste material out of our bodies.

You definitely need it
Your body consists of a lot of water. Just imagine if you drained away the water in your body, not much left is there? It is easy to see that your body needs water and it needs a lot. Drink water and your body will respond positively, on the other hand if you do not drink enough your body will start to move water from less essential systems to more vital systems. Question is what systems in your body would you would classify as less vital? 75% of your brain tissue consists of water and your brain runs 7 days per week and 24 hours per day. Your brain needs water more than any other organ since your whole system depends on a functioning brain. When starting to drink more water one of the first things you will notice is that your will feel more "clear".

Water an effective medicine
Water is nature's most effective medicine because it is essential for cleaning and removing toxins from the body. When your body does not get enough water it cannot remove toxins and problems start occurring. When you are under stress, growth or any other kind of change including healing, your body will produce chemicals and other waste that need to be removed from your system. If you think about it most types of healing suggests that you drink water after a session, I wonder why?!
Water will remove waste through your lungs, skin (sweat), urine and faeces. Enough water will mean that your system will effectively remove toxins and help keeping you healthy.

Drink enough and stay healthy
It is recommended that you drink at least eight glasses of eight ounces water per day (8 glasses of 2,5dl). If you are in warmer climates you might need to drink up to twice that amount. Give your body the water it needs to function properly and you will find that just drinking more water can actually solve many problems. Water is known to have an effect on diverse diseases like: angina, arthritis, asthma, back problems, depression, diabetes, excess weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, migraine, MS (multiple sclerosis) just to mention a few.

Not just any fluid
In most countries tap water is contaminated or not really fit for drinking, in such cases you need to install a water purifier. If possible drink good quality bottled water. Remember just because it is wet does not mean it is water! Coffee, tea, beer, soda, juice etc. all contain dehydrating agents, you might actually lose more fluid than you take in. Stick to water!

It is never too late for water
You can never drink too much water (but as with anything else don't overdo it), water will help your system to clear itself of toxins and make you feel better. Remember that starting a new habit of drinking water properly will not overnight create results. Your problems may have taken time to develop, therefore it will also take time to cure them.

Reiki and water
Naturallyyou can use Reiki to improve the healing powers of the water you drink. Hold your hands around the glass of water you are about to drink and let Reiki flow. If you have Reiki II you can use the symbols to further help the process. Keep your intention on the fact that you want the water to be as pure and healthy as possible for you at this moment.

One last thing: You are not ill - your body is thirsty!
